Telephone us on 020 8693 3012 before you order if you have an allergy. Everything is cooked in one kitchen, so no dish can be guaranteed free of any allergen. A note typed into an order reaches the kitchen; a conversation is the only way to be sure of what we can do.

Why we cannot promise you a dish is free of something

One kitchen, one charcoal tandoor and a shared row of pans. Ghee, cream, yoghurt and ground almonds are in constant use, gram and wheat flour are both in the air, and the same oil fries bhajis and pakoras through the evening.

That means cross-contact is possible with any dish. It is not a disclaimer for the sake of it: it is a description of how the food is actually cooked. A dish can suit a preference or a mild intolerance and still be unsafe for a severe allergy, and we would rather say so than let you find out.

What we can tell you

On the ordering page. Each dish carries the information we hold for it, and you can add a note to the order.
On the telephone. 020 8693 3012, while we are open. This is the one that matters: we can tell you what a sauce is thickened with, what we can cook separately, and what we would rather you did not risk.
At the table, or at the counter. Ask. Nobody minds.

The fourteen allergens

UK law requires a food business to be able to tell you whether a dish contains any of fourteen named allergens. They are:

celery · cereals containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley, oats) · crustaceans · eggs · fish · lupin · milk · molluscs · mustard · tree nuts · peanuts · sesame · soya · sulphur dioxide and sulphites

Nuts, dairy, gluten and mustard are in use here constantly, which between them touch most of the menu. Ask us about the rest.

Vegan, vegetarian and dairy

A vegetarian dish is not automatically dairy free — ghee, cream, yoghurt and paneer are the backbone of a lot of this cooking. Tell us if dairy is the problem rather than meat, and we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot adapt.

Recipes change

Suppliers and recipes change, sometimes at short notice. Please check each time you order rather than relying on what was true last month, or on this page.

Where this sits

This page explains our practice. The contractual position is in section 4 of our terms. Nothing on either page limits your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or our duties under food safety law. Concerns about food hygiene can go to Southwark Council’s environmental health team.
